Minalogic and the Silicon Europe Alliance: a European metacluster for technological sovereignty in microelectronics

A strategic alliance serving Europe
Created in 2015, the Silicon Europe Alliance brings together 12 European clusters with a shared objective: to strengthen the digital and microelectronics industries across Europe. This strategic alliance plays an active role in implementing the European Chips Act by supporting innovation ecosystems in a concrete and coordinated way.
Tangible benefits for members
As a founding member of the Alliance, Minalogic plays a key role—having held the presidency twice, in 2016 and again in 2023—delivering real benefits to its members in terms of growth, visibility, and access to funding:
- Several joint actions are organized each year to promote R&D partnerships and business collaborations: Minalogic Business Meetings, Silicon Saxony Days, and Open Innovation Days, with regular participation from European delegations.
- Internationally, the Alliance increases visibility through joint booths at major trade shows such as SEMICON Taiwan and SEMICON Europa.
- Silicon Europe also acts as a voice for its members at the European Commission, advocating for the interests of its clusters and their stakeholders in shaping industrial policy.
European support for innovation and the green transition
Minalogic also coordinated the Silicon Eurocluster project, which brought together all the clusters of the Silicon Europe Alliance. Funded by the European Commission, this project supported both R&D and the ecological transition of SMEs. Twelve high-potential projects were funded, covering breakthrough technologies, AI, cybersecurity, photonics, and energy.
🔎 Focus on the SEPOC project
Funded by Silicon Eurocluster, the SEPOC project involved two Minalogic member SMEs, Dracula Technologies and Orioma, and a Belgian company. Together, they developed a self-powered infrared thermal sensor to improve energy management in buildings. This project is a prime example of the Alliance’s support for innovative SMEs.
A key player in the European Chips Act
The Silicon Europe Alliance is actively involved in one of the strategic pillars of the Chips Act: skills development. The Chips JU recently announced the selection of 27 competence centres for semiconductors across 24 EU Member States and Norway, with the goal of boosting technical expertise and workforce development. Seven of the Alliance’s 12 clusters are leading or supporting their respective national competence centres, including Minalogic, which is leading the French centre for microelectronics.
In addition, a European network of competence centres in microelectronics has been established, linking Minalogic with four other Alliance clusters based in Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Austria.
The Alliance also works closely with major European research centres and industry players, particularly by disseminating the results of the IPCEI ME/CT initiative through transnational events.
Advancing Europe’s technological sovereignty
“The Silicon Europe Alliance has a central role to play in achieving the European Commission's goals for technological sovereignty. Our ambition is to ensure that European SMEs benefit from the latest advances in microelectronics,” says Erasmia Dupenloup, General Manager of Minalogic and President of the Silicon Europe Alliance.
