Challenges

Surgical technology is a cross-disciplinary research field whose aim is to introduce the latest IT and roboticsdevelopments into medical and surgical practice. The development of such guidance systems for medical and surgical practitioners is one of the factors that is driving the emergence of new minimally-invasive surgery techniques. Grenoble-Isère offers a unique ecosystem that is particularly suited to this type of research as well as unrivalled knowledge in the field's core disciplines.

Objectives

Develop a miniature-computer-assisted surgery station that is unique on the global market. The station will include a medical and surgical companion with its own energy source; robust, unique location technology using miniature sensors; and a standardized wireless communication system. This miniature surgical station will lead to the development of dedicated MIS software for spinal-column surgery. Final integration and preclinical testing will be carried out in cooperation with Grenoble University Medical Center.
