Interview with Morane Rey-Huet, Meersens - MEERSENS
CEO and Co-founder
Morane Rey-Huet, tell us about Meersens :
MRH : "I have lived in quite a few different countries, including in China, where I lived for five years at the time of the melamine scandal; my daughter was also born there. That is where I got the idea for Meersens. One of the biggest health risks we face today comes from our immediate surroundings—the exposome. Louis (Meersens’ CIO and co-founder) and I decided to start the company and tackle the pressing challenge of making our world healthier. Today, our entire team strives to make Meersens your protector, looking out for your health with commitment, transparency, and compassion.
Our IoT solution combines an app, advanced biosensors, and artificial intelligence to monitor the environment and alert users to potential health hazards coming from air or water quality, UV exposures, electromagnetic waves, noise, pesticides, endocrine disruptors, and more.
We address an international market, and our solution mainly targets consumers—anyone who feels concerned by environmental risks, really. Our solution is also great for government smart city programs, industrial facilities, and healthcare organizations.
Our largest market is North America, where there is high demand for new technologies, especially ones that address health and the environment. And, since we are based in France, the French market is also right up there on our list!
We have won several awards, including a CES 2019 Innovation Award in the “Tech for a Better World” category. We are also one of the top five startups in terms of our positive impact in France. We anticipate strong sales in 2019.
Given today’s health and environmental challenges, we have everything it takes to become one of Europe’s unicorns!"
What made you decide to join Minalogic?
MRH: "For us, joining Minalogic was a no-brainer—our solutions are at the crossroads of IoT, deep tech, and apps/AI.
Being part of a network like Minalogic is a great way to rapidly create a compassionate, relevant ecosystem of partner companies, research labs, universities, financers, and government. Success is not something you achieve alone!"
What collaborative R&D projects are you involved in?
MRH : "We would like to partner with Grenoble Institute of Technology labs, IMMS, and Centex on an EU Horizon 2020 project. Meersens could contribute in-depth knowledge of biosensors and air quality."
What services have you used since joining Minalogic?
MRH : "Thanks to Minalogic’s support, we went to CES 2018 and are going back in 2019. Minalogic helped us prepare for the event, with pitch sessions and workshops on regulatory issues and logistics.
Minalogic has also provided us with valuable introductions and opportunities to share our experiences with other members.
We also worked on an electronic circuit project with Grenoble Institute of Technology-Esisar, ultimately earning Easytech certification, once again thanks to Minalogic.
Finally, we attended the annual Minalogic Day in 2017 in Lyon and again in 2018 in Grenoble, where we gave our pitch and ran an exhibit booth. We also attended the Open Innovation Day with STMicroelectronics."
What types of partnerships are you looking for as a Minalogic member? Business?
MRH : "We would like to work more closely with corporate partners like STMicroelectronics, and other large organizations, like the CEA, for example. We have also set up strategic partnerships with local governments for public health projects. So, we are looking for partners to recommend our solution—ambitious partners who share our values and ethics and who want to help make the world healthier and the future more sustainable.
We would also like support seeking financing, as well."
