Digital technology is just one of the broad array of fields affected by the factories of the future (FoF), a trend that will drive the emergence of new uses for technologies and numerous market opportunities. FoF is one of the seven markets addressed by Minalogic as part of a strategy that aligns with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional government’s Smart Specialization initiatives for industrial processes and eco-efficient factories and digital technologies and human-assistance systems.
Generating synergies to hasten the pace of innovation
In 2016 Minalogic has joined two intercluster alliances that address FoF-related topics. The goal is to combine the clusters’ resources to generate synergies and drive the innovations that will help modernize tomorrow’s factories.
National alliances :
In March 2016 Minalogic joined France’s national FoF intercluster consortium (Plate-forme des Pôles pour l'Industrie du Futur). This organization unites 33 clusters under France’s cluster umbrella federation (Association Française des Pôles de Compétitivité). Also in March 2016, Minalogic joined France’s FoF alliance (Alliance Industrie du Futur), which was set up to boost France’s economic competitiveness in this field and recommend programs aligned with the French government’s industrial renewal platform (la Nouvelle France Industrielle). Minalogic also represents France’s clusters to the FoF alliance for all issues under the Showcasing the Factories of the Future (Vitrines de l’industrie du futur) theme.
Regional alliances :
Minalogic is also a member of the regional FoF alliance (Collectif des pôles de compétitivité pour l’Industrie du futur en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) founded in February 2016 by the region’s seven clusters: Axelera, Minalogic, Mont-Blanc Industries, Plastipolis, Techtera, Tenerrdis, and Viaméca.
Organizing networking events to facilitate cooperation
In order to build effective partnerships, you have to know who your potential partners are—be they business or research institutions. Minalogic runs a full calendar of networking events to help its members build their networks and promote their know-how :
Minalogic held a Conference on Preventive and Predictive Maintenance on June 14, 2016 in conjunction with partner cluster Viaméca. The day-long event brought in more than 60 attendees, who benefitted from opportunities to discuss the latest technological innovations and market opportunities in the field of FoF. The program featured eight talks, several posters, and product demos.
Xavier Pain, CEO, Gulplug, a Minalogic member:
"“The day was really enjoyable. And, because it was effectively targeted to a specific field, it was well worth the time spent. The speakers were very enthusiastic. The location was also perfect: a pleasant yet convenient venue just an hour from Grenoble that offered the ideal setting to talk and network. Gulplug even came home with a new customer and potential sales of €2 million."
A Conference on Augmented Reality, a particularly hot FoF and human-centered manufacturing topic, was held in April 2016, bringing in around 60 attendees.
Finally, Minalogic took part in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region’s Industries2020 First conference, held on June 15, 2016 by ARDI (the regional innovation agency) in partnership with the seven clusters of the region’s FoF cluster alliance (Collectif pour l’Industrie du futur en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). The conference showcased 24 R&D projects certified by the alliance’s member clusters on site and in a special booklet (download booklet).
